Residential Sustainable Building in Canada: |
The majority of the case studies addressed here are early, experimental green building efforts. The "Healthy House" competition and the series of "Green Homes", along with the R-2000 project succeeded in developing a number of prototypical houses, and in the case of the R-2000 project, helped to make housing by and large more energy efficient. The issue of multi-family housing and co-housing is not addressed (yet) on this page. Densification of housing is critically important to reducing urban sprawl and making more effective use of our existing cities and suburbs. The USGBC launched LEED NC for Homes Pilot Project in 2005. More info. This will be important to the development of the LEED rating system as the current NC system is in many cases quite unsuitable to issues that are peculiar to housing. |
